Virtual Frome Market Day! New Naturally Dyed Yarn, Seeds and Pre-Mordanted Wool

The lovely folk at the Frome Independent Market have organised a virtual market to showcase us traders, in light of their physical markets being cancelled for the time being. At these events I sell exclusive, limited runs of yarn, so thought this was a good opportunity to bring the market to you and finally list some online!

Alongside my naturally dyed, local wool knitwear you'll find naturally dyed knitting yarns, pre-mordanted yarn ready for dyeing, and natural dye seeds saved from my own garden. The links below take you straight to my shop. For the full Frome Market experience, grab a half pint of cider and a pastry while you browse!

Please note that during the Covid-19 government restrictions, we are safely posting orders once a week. Worldwide shipping is currently still available - check with your countries’ restrictions before ordering to avoid delays or disappointment.

Pre-Prepared Yarns for Dyeing

This selection of undyed yarns has been pre-prepared for you by Ria, meaning all you need to do is extract some colour from a dye plant, add the yarn and get dyeing! Ria has taken the hard work out of the fibre preparation by washing and mordanting the yarn with Alum and Cream of Tartar.

Yarns currently available are:

  • BFL Aran - 100g

  • Scottish Wool Blend Aran - 50g

(More yarn types and to be added soon)

This yarn is a great purchase for a beginner who would like to try out natural dyeing without having to buy large quantities of mordant.

A leaflet will be included with the yarn briefly explaining the process of dyeing the yarn, and a video tutorial will be following soon showing you how to get the best results using foraged plants and this pre-mordanted yarn.

natural dye seeds

Last but not least are a selection of natural dye seeds, saved from my garden. These have proven very popular at workshops and are flying out of the online shop!

Choose from Woad, Cosmos or Coreopsis to grow your own dye plants. Woad plants produce the elusive blue pigment, Cosmos and Coreopsis flowers produce an orange dye plus are excellent for pollinators.

Only a limited amount are available, once they are gone, they are gone until more seeds are harvested in the Autumn.

Aprrox 20+ seeds per packet.

Please note that due to postage restrictions, these seeds can be shipped to UK addresses only.
