I received an excellent blog post from Selvedge in my inbox this week, featuring the late Jurgen Lehl's Babhaguri brand. It discusses his use of natural dyes in his textiles, and how that related to his wider environmental ethos.
The textiles and clothing produced by the Babhaguri brand are beautifully elegant and timeless, and really emphasise the nature of the sustainably made and dyed cloth.
One critique of natural dyes is that they can fade over time - Lehl made that a feature of the pieces:
If a lingering ray of sunshine fades the colour of a naturally-dyed garment, for Babaghuri, it's just another defining character in the ever evolving life of cloth. (Selvedge, 2017, online)
